Class Enrollment

The course purpose is to give the students the knowledge and skills to, respond safely and efficiently to Hazmat incidents at their level of responsibility and training. Recognize the various classes of materials. Provide proper notification of releases, spills and leaks.

The goal is for those persons who, in the course of their duties, may witness or come upon a scene of a hazardous materials incident. (E.g., Police, Firefighters, EMS personnel, public works field inspector’s and OEM person not familiar with HazMat. Response etc.)  Course covers basic recognition, proper defensive actions that need to be taken and use of the DOT Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG).  Covers the basic laws and regulations in New Jersey as well how, when to call for assistance.  This course provides compliance in the OSHA regulations and the NJ PEOSH requirements.

The participants will have the competencies specified for the Awareness trained First Responder by OSHA, PEOSHA, and NFPA 472-08.
