Hospital First Receiver Decontamination examines the critical shift in emergency management where healthcare facilities, not just field-based Hazmat teams, have become the front line for contaminated victims.

The session covers the regulatory mandates (OSHA and Joint Commission) that require hospitals to protect their staff and facility while fulfilling the EMTALA obligation to stabilize patients. Participants will explore the practical risks of "secondary contamination," the criteria for identifying chemical, biological, and radiological threats, and the operational strategies necessary to manage "low-probability, high-impact" mass casualty events. Including personal protective clothing, donning and doffing procedures.  Decontamination set up and ambulatory and non-ambulatory patient decon.

Ultimately, this lecture and hands-on session provides a framework for turning a healthcare facility into a secure "First Receiver" point of care during a hazardous materials crisis.
